Good Morning

The gap between the dew point and the air temperature seems to have narrowed during the night, giving us fog outside this morning. Coastal marine layer clouds drifting east, no doubt, as part of our June gloom thing and I’m enjoying it. Foggy mornings make me want to pull the covers up over my head, roll over, and go back to sleep, but our dogs won’t let me.

They run back and forth around our bed, their nails clicking loudly on the hardwood floor sounding like two dueling typewriters each trying to get in the last word. Over time I’ve learned that this behavior is not to be ignored. It signals that they want to be let out to do their business in the yard instead of in the house.

Brown Dog and White Dog

So instead of sleeping in, I’m up and out in the backyard with the dogs as they begin their day; sniffing the damp air, peeing on bushes and, hopefully, pooping in the grass. I have similar morning rituals ahead of me once I’ve had my coffee. Indoors, of course.
