“Just for the record, the weather today is calm and sunny, but the air is full of bullshit.” ― Chuck Palahniuk, Diary
In 1960, my dad gave me a weather station for my birthday that consisted of, from top to bottom, one above the other, three round analog gauges (whose pointers never seemed to move, regardless of weather) mounted on a press board plaque that you hung on the wall. As a 6 year old kid who was hoping for a bike, I was pretty disappointed. A few months later Santa brought me a bike for Christmas, so . . . happy ending to this paragraph.
The bike is long gone now but I still have the weather station around here somewhere. And it works as well today as it did the very first day I got it, which is not at all. But it’s a fond memory of my dad so I’ve hung on to it.
As an adult I’ve become a big fan of the weather. Wind, rain, or shine, I like it all. In Southern California, however, there’s really only two types of weather — warm and sunny or cold and cloudy with occasional rain, negating the need for having my own weather station. But still, I like to know what’s coming my way, which brings me to the reason I started writing this in the first place – to plug a cool weather forecast app I like.
I recently went over to the dark side when I dumped my Apple iPhone in favor of a Samsung Galaxy, causing me to have to find a different weather forecasting app. I looked at a bunch and went with Night Cat Production’s WTForecast app because it’s pretty accurate for my location, and the ads are fairly unobtrusive. Plus, it makes me laugh from time to time.
